How To Be A Leader

I’ve asked numerous groups to give me the name of someone they saw as a great leader and the most common replies are - Winston Churchill and Richard Branson!

I’m not sure what that tells you, except that the idea of a “ leader “ is as broad as the idea of a Manager. In fact, it’s probably even less well defined.

Some people think a great leader is born, someone with natural charisma or authority.

I think this is overestimated. I believe leadership is a way of behaving which you can learn and develop like any other skill ( but then I would say that, I’m a trainer ).

Is there any difference between Leadership and plain old Management?

If you’re in a position where people see you as a leader, how should you behave? How do you influence and motivate people so that they follow you?

All this and more will be discussed in this course on how to be a leader.

This course can include:

  • the difference between management and leadership
  • the characteristics of effective leaders
  • what effective leaders do
  • what people expect from a leader
  • the styles of Situational Leadership and when to use them
  • the different Power styles - how to recognise and use them
  • the difference between Power and Influence - and why it matters
  • 4 approaches to influencing
  • how and when to use each approach
  • the key motivating factors for people at work
  • how to use these to motivate the people you lead
  • the importance of leadership in times of change

The length and final content of the course will be agreed after discussion, based on the specific needs ( and number ) of the participants.
