How to Handle Conflict

Essential skills to resolve disagreements and defuse disputes

What's the best way to deal with conflict?

For many people, the answer is to try to avoid it. Perhaps by going along with things they don’t really want to do ( for a while, at least ) or by trying to “ keep the peace “ when things do start to get a bit heated.

But conflict happens.

People fall out. They clash. They have differences of opinion.

There can be disagreements between individuals or disputes between organisations, such as employers and unions.

And sometimes trying to avoid conflict or smooth it over is actually the wrong approach. Sometimes that just makes things worse.

So how can you handle conflict when it does arise?

Does conflict have to mean that one side “ wins” and the other “ loses “?

Is compromise always the best solution? And does “ compromise “ mean that
no – one gets what they want ?

How can you resolve disagreements so that both parties can work together?

This How To Handle Conflict workshop will help you find the answers.

It will reveal how to:

  • recognise the causes of conflict ( and they’re not always what they seem )
  • understand what causes people to behave in certain ways ( and why they may seem to be “ difficult “ even when they don’t mean to be )
  • identify your own personal style of conflict management and how it affects your
  • approach to situations
  • recognise the other approaches which are available and be able to choose the
  • right one for each occasion
  • deal with people who are angry or aggressive
  • use assertive language and non – verbal behaviour to defuse heated situations
  • mediate successfully between third parties who are unable to agree

The workshop wil be very interactive, with small group activities to practise the skills involved.
